How the Calculator Works:
The calculator takes three key pieces of information:
- Lawn Area: This is the total square footage of the area you need to fertilize. Measure your lawn accurately for the best results.
- Fertilizer Coverage: This refers to how many square feet one pound of your fertilizer can cover. This information is usually found on the fertilizer packaging. Different formulations have different coverage rates.
- Fertilizer Price Per Pound: This is the cost of the fertilizer for each pound you purchase.
The calculator first determines how many pounds of fertilizer you'll need by dividing your total lawn area by the fertilizer's coverage rate. Then, it multiplies the total pounds needed by the price per pound to give you an estimated total cost.
Formula Used:
Total Fertilizer Needed (lbs) = Lawn Area (sq ft) / Fertilizer Coverage (sq ft per lb)
Total Cost ($) = Total Fertilizer Needed (lbs) * Fertilizer Price ($ per lb)
Example Calculation:
Let's say you have a lawn that is 5,000 sq ft. You've purchased a fertilizer that covers 400 sq ft per lb and costs $1.25 per lb.
First, calculate the total fertilizer needed: 5,000 sq ft / 400 sq ft per lb = 12.5 lbs
Next, calculate the total cost: 12.5 lbs * $1.25 per lb = $15.63
So, for this example, you would expect to spend approximately $15.63 on fertilizer.
