What is an Influencer Engagement Rate?
Engagement rate (ER) is a fundamental metric used to measure the level of interaction that social media content receives from an influencer's audience. Unlike follower counts, which can be inflated by inactive or fake accounts, engagement rate provides a true look at how much the audience cares about the content being shared.
The Formula for Calculating Engagement Rate
This calculator uses the "Engagement by Followers" formula, which is the industry standard for brand collaborations:
What is a Good Engagement Rate?
While "good" varies by niche and platform, here are the general benchmarks used by agencies:
- Under 1%: Low engagement; typical for very large accounts or inactive audiences.
- 1% – 3%: Average/Good engagement; standard for most healthy profiles.
- 3% – 6%: High engagement; indicates a very loyal and active community.
- Over 6%: Very High engagement; often seen with micro-influencers or viral content.
Example Calculation
Imagine an influencer has 25,000 followers. Their latest post received 800 likes, 150 comments, and 50 shares.
- Total Interactions: 800 + 150 + 50 = 1,000
- Divide by Followers: 1,000 / 25,000 = 0.04
- Multiply by 100: 0.04 x 100 = 4% Engagement Rate
In this scenario, the influencer has a "High" engagement rate, making them an attractive partner for brands.
