- Raise the result to the power of 1 divided by the number of years: 2.5 ^ (1 / 5) = 2.5 ^ 0.2 ≈ 1.2011
- Subtract 1 from the result: 1.2011 – 1 = 0.2011
- Multiply by 100 to get the percentage: 20.11%

Why Use CAGR Instead of Simple Average?
Simple average returns can be misleading. Imagine an investment that grows 100% in Year 1 and drops 50% in Year 2. A simple average would suggest a 25% return [(100 – 50) / 2]. However, in reality, you started with 100, went up to 200, and fell back to 100. Your actual growth is 0%.
