Is the Disney Dining Plan Worth It?
The Disney Dining Plan (DDP) returned to Walt Disney World in early 2024, offering guests a way to prepay for their meals. For many families, the appeal lies in the "all-inclusive" feel, but the mathematical value depends heavily on your eating habits.
Understanding the Two Tiers
- Quick Service Dining Plan: Best for families who want to stay on the move. It includes two quick-service meals and one snack/non-alcoholic drink per night, plus a resort refillable mug.
- Disney Dining Plan (Standard): Best for those who enjoy a sit-down experience. It includes one table-service meal, one quick-service meal, and one snack per night, plus the refillable mug.
How We Calculate the Value
Our calculator uses current 2024 pricing estimates:
- Quick Service Plan: Approx. $57.01 per adult / $23.83 per child (per night).
- Standard Plan: Approx. $94.28 per adult / $29.69 per child (per night).
Out-of-pocket (OOP) estimates are based on average Disney prices: $20 for Quick Service, $60 for Table Service (including tax/tip), and $7 for snacks. We also factor in the $22 value of the refillable mug once per person per stay.
Example Scenario
If a family of 2 Adults and 2 Children stays for 5 nights on the Standard Dining Plan:
- Plan Cost: (~$94.28 * 2 + ~$29.69 * 2) * 5 = $1,239.70
- Value Received: If you use credits for expensive Character Meals (like Chef Mickey's or Be Our Guest), the out-of-pocket cost could exceed $1,400, making the plan a great deal. If you eat only at lower-priced restaurants, you might lose money.
