Car Price Estimate Calculator
Use this calculator to get an estimated market value for your used car. Please note that this is an estimate based on common depreciation factors and market adjustments, and actual prices may vary based on local market conditions, specific trim levels, and detailed inspection.

Estimating the value of a used car involves considering several key factors that influence its market price. This calculator provides a general estimate by taking into account the most significant depreciation drivers.
Key Factors Influencing Car Price:
- Original MSRP (Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price): This is the starting point. The higher the initial price, the higher the potential resale value, though depreciation rates can vary.
- Car Model Year & Age: Cars depreciate most rapidly in their first few years. Our calculator applies a higher depreciation rate for the first year and a steady rate for subsequent years. Older cars generally have lower values due to wear and tear, outdated technology, and increased maintenance likelihood.
- Current Mileage: Mileage is a direct indicator of how much a car has been used. Higher mileage typically leads to lower value, as it suggests more wear on mechanical components. Our calculator applies a deduction for mileage exceeding a typical threshold.
- Car Condition: The physical and mechanical state of the car significantly impacts its value. A car in "Excellent" condition (minimal wear, well-maintained) will fetch a higher price than one in "Poor" condition (significant cosmetic or mechanical issues).
- Accident History: A car with a clean title and no accident history is always more valuable. Even minor accidents can reduce a car's value, while major accidents (especially those involving structural damage) can drastically lower it.
- Extra Features/Upgrades: Aftermarket additions or premium factory features (e.g., navigation, premium sound system, special wheels) can add value, but only if they are desirable and professionally installed.
How the Calculator Works:
Our calculator starts with the Original MSRP and then applies a series of adjustments:
- Age Depreciation: A significant percentage is deducted for the first year, followed by a smaller percentage for each subsequent year. This reflects the typical depreciation curve of most vehicles.
- Mileage Adjustment: A deduction is applied for every 10,000 miles the car has traveled beyond a standard mileage threshold (e.g., 50,000 miles).
- Condition Multiplier: The current value is adjusted up or down based on the selected condition (Excellent, Good, Fair, Poor).
- Accident History Deduction: A fixed amount is deducted if the car has a minor or major accident history.
- Extra Features: Any estimated value for desirable extra features is added to the total.
Example Calculation:
Let's estimate the value of a 2018 Honda Civic EX:
- Original MSRP: $22,000
- Car Model Year: 2018
- Current Year: 2023
- Current Mileage: 75,000 miles
- Car Condition: Good
- Accident History: None
- Estimated Value of Extra Features: $500 (e.g., aftermarket remote start)
Step 1: Age Depreciation (5 years old)
- Initial value: $22,000
- After 1st year (20%): $22,000 * (1 – 0.20) = $17,600
- After next 4 years (10% each): $17,600 * (1 – 0.10)^4 = $17,600 * 0.6561 = $11,547.36
Step 2: Mileage Adjustment (75,000 miles)
- Excess mileage over 50,000: 75,000 – 50,000 = 25,000 miles
- Deduction: (25,000 / 10,000) * $500 = 2.5 * $500 = $1,250
- Value after mileage: $11,547.36 – $1,250 = $10,297.36
Step 3: Condition Multiplier (Good)
- Multiplier for "Good" condition: 1.00
- Value after condition: $10,297.36 * 1.00 = $10,297.36
Step 4: Accident History (None)
- Deduction for "None": $0
- Value after accidents: $10,297.36 – $0 = $10,297.36
Step 5: Extra Features
- Add extra features value: $10,297.36 + $500 = $10,797.36
Estimated Car Price: $10,797.36

This calculator provides an estimate and should not be considered a definitive valuation. Actual car prices are influenced by many variables, including local market demand, specific trim levels, optional packages, regional differences, and the subjective assessment of a buyer or dealer. For a precise valuation, consider getting an appraisal from a professional or checking multiple online valuation tools (e.g., Kelley Blue Book, Edmunds) and local dealership offers.
