Is the Disney Dining Plan Worth It?
Deciding whether to add the Disney Dining Plan (DDP) to your Walt Disney World vacation package is one of the biggest planning hurdles for families. Since its return in 2024, the math has changed slightly, making it essential to crunch the numbers based on your family's eating habits.
2024/2025 Plan Pricing Explained
The rates used in this calculator are based on current average Disney pricing:
- Quick Service Plan: Approx. $57.01 per adult (10+) and $23.83 per child (3-9) per night.
- Standard Dining Plan: Approx. $94.28 per adult (10+) and $29.69 per child (3-9) per night.
How to Get Maximum Value
To make the Disney Dining Plan "worth it" financially, you generally need to maximize your credits by choosing the most expensive items on the menu. This includes:
- Ordering Alcohol or Specialty Drinks: Adults (21+) can order beer, wine, or cocktails with their meal credits, which usually retail for $12-$18.
- Character Dining: If you have the Standard Plan, using credits for character meals (like Chef Mickey's or Be Our Guest) provides a much higher per-credit value than a standard steakhouse.
- Steak and Seafood: Always look for the highest-priced entree when using a Table Service credit.
When You Should Skip the Plan
The Dining Plan is often not worth it if your family prefers water with meals, shares entrees, or typically eats smaller meals like salads or appetizers (which are generally not included in the plan). Additionally, if you are a light eater, you will likely spend significantly less paying out-of-pocket.
