How to Measure Your Face Correctlly
To get the most accurate results from the Face Shape Calculator, follow these steps using a flexible measuring tape and a mirror:
- Forehead Width: Measure from the peak of one eyebrow arch to the peak of the opposite arch.
- Cheekbone Width: Measure across your upper cheeks, starting from the bump just below the outer corner of each eye.
- Jawline Width: Measure from the tip of your chin to the corner of your jaw below your ear. Multiply this number by two for the total width.
- Face Length: Measure from the center of your hairline to the tip of your chin.
Understanding the Different Face Shapes
Knowing your face shape is the secret to choosing the right hairstyles, glasses, and makeup techniques. Here are the primary shapes our calculator identifies:
Oval: Considered the most "balanced" shape. The length is about 1.5 times the width, and the forehead is slightly wider than the jawline.
Round: Cheekbones and face length have a similar measurement. They are larger than the forehead and jawline, which also have a similar measurement. The jawline is soft and less defined.
Square: All measurements are fairly similar. The angle of the jaw is sharp rather than rounded.
Heart: The forehead is the widest part, tapering down to a narrow or pointed chin.
Diamond: The face length is the largest measurement. Then, in descending order: cheekbones, forehead, and smallest is the jawline. The chin is pointed.
Oblong (Long): The face length is the greatest measurement by a significant margin. The forehead, cheekbones, and jawline are similar in size.
Example Calculation
Imagine a user with the following measurements: Forehead (14cm), Cheekbones (14cm), Jawline (14cm), and Face Length (14.5cm). Since all measurements are nearly identical and the length is close to the width, the result would be a Square Face Shape.
