Medi-Share Cost Calculator
Estimate your potential monthly costs with a Medi-Share plan.
Understanding Medi-Share and Your Potential Costs
Medi-Share is a Christian healthcare sharing ministry, not an insurance company. It operates on the principle of members sharing each other's medical expenses. While it provides a way to manage healthcare costs, it's important to understand how the costs are structured. Your monthly "Share" (contribution) and the expenses you are responsible for before the sharing takes effect (your deductible, often called an Annual Household Portion or AHP) are key components.
This calculator provides an *estimation* of your potential total monthly healthcare expense, encompassing your contribution to Medi-Share and your out-of-pocket medical expenses up to your chosen Annual Household Portion (AHP). It is crucial to note that Medi-Share's actual monthly contributions (Shares) are based on age, household size, and the chosen AHP, and prescription costs are handled separately based on the plan's guidelines. This simplified calculator uses income as a proxy for the Share amount and annual deductible as the AHP for illustrative purposes.
How the Calculation Works:
The calculator estimates your monthly Medi-Share contribution and adds your share of annual medical expenses, distributed monthly.

Estimated Monthly Share:
Medi-Share's monthly "Shares" (contributions) are determined by Medi-Share based on factors like age, household size, and the chosen Annual Household Portion (AHP). For this calculator, we're using a simplified estimation:
- A base contribution is assumed and adjusted slightly by household size and income. A simplified model might suggest a minimum contribution, increasing with higher incomes and larger households. For this calculator, we've implemented a basic formula:
(Monthly Income / 200) + (Household Size * 10). This is a simplification and does not reflect Medi-Share's exact pricing structure.
- A base contribution is assumed and adjusted slightly by household size and income. A simplified model might suggest a minimum contribution, increasing with higher incomes and larger households. For this calculator, we've implemented a basic formula:
- Annual Household Portion (AHP) / Deductible: This is the amount you agree to pay out-of-pocket for eligible medical expenses each year before Medi-Share begins to share the costs. You select your AHP when joining. Common AHPs range from $500 to $10,000+.
- Estimated Annual Medical Expenses: This includes your chosen Annual Household Portion (AHP) plus any estimated annual prescription costs.
- Estimated Monthly Out-of-Pocket Costs: The total estimated annual medical expenses (AHP + Prescriptions) are divided by 12 to get a monthly average.
- Total Estimated Monthly Cost: This is the sum of your estimated monthly Share contribution and your estimated monthly out-of-pocket medical expenses.
Important Considerations:
- Not Insurance: Medi-Share is a faith-based community and does not guarantee medical services or act as insurance. It relies on the goodwill and financial participation of its members.
- Membership Requirements: Members must agree to a Statement of Faith and adhere to certain lifestyle standards.
- Plan Variations: Medi-Share offers different AHP levels and programs. The actual costs and benefits can vary significantly.
- Provider Networks: While not a PPO or HMO, Medi-Share members often find specific providers prefer to work with them. Some plans may have limitations on out-of-network care.
- This Calculator is an Estimate: The figures generated are approximations based on the inputs provided and a simplified model. For precise figures, you must consult the official Medi-Share website or a representative. They can provide a personalized quote based on your specific situation and the current Medi-Share program details.
