MGM Rewards is MGM Resorts International's loyalty program, designed to reward frequent guests and visitors to their properties. A key component of this program is the earning of Tier Credits, which determine your status within the MGM Rewards program (Pearl, Gold, Platinum, and the ultra-exclusive Noir). Higher tiers unlock more benefits, such as room upgrades, late check-out, priority access, and unique experiences.
Unlike points that can be redeemed for free play or comped items, Tier Credits are solely for status advancement. They are earned based on your spending and activity at MGM properties. The calculation method ensures that guests who spend more and engage more deeply with the resort's offerings are recognized and rewarded with higher loyalty tiers.
How Tier Credits Are Calculated:
The calculation for Tier Credits involves several components of your spending at MGM Resorts. While the exact formulas can be nuanced and subject to change by MGM, a common way to estimate Tier Credits is as follows:
- Gaming: For every $1 spent on qualified gaming, you generally earn 4 Tier Credits. This is the primary driver for many high-roller guests.
- Hotel: For every $1 spent on hotel room charges (room rate), you earn 4 Tier Credits. This applies to the base room rate and excludes taxes, resort fees, and other incidental charges.
- Dining, Entertainment, Spa, and Other Charges: For every $1 spent on qualifying non-gaming, non-room charges (such as food and beverage, spa services, entertainment tickets), you typically earn 2 Tier Credits.
The Calculator Logic:
This calculator simplifies the estimation process by allowing you to input your estimated spending in key categories.
- Estimated Gaming Spend (USD): Input the total amount you anticipate spending on table games, slots, etc.
- Average Room Rate (USD per Night): Enter the average cost of your hotel room per night.
- Number of Nights Stayed: Specify the duration of your stay.
- Estimated Other Spend (USD): This covers dining, bars, lounges, spa treatments, entertainment, and other eligible purchases made during your stay.
The calculator then applies the estimated earning rates:
- Gaming Spend contributes
Gaming Spend * 4 Tier Credits. - Hotel Spend contributes
(Room Rate * Nights Stayed) * 4 Tier Credits. - Other Spend contributes
Other Spend * 2 Tier Credits.
These values are summed up to provide an estimated total of Tier Credits earned for your stay.
Example Calculation:
Let's say you plan a 3-night stay with the following estimated spending:
- Gaming Spend: $1,500
- Average Room Rate: $300 per night
- Number of Nights Stayed: 3
- Other Spend (Dining, Spa): $500
Calculation:
- Gaming Tier Credits: $1,500 * 4 = 6,000
- Hotel Tier Credits: ($300/night * 3 nights) * 4 = $900 * 4 = 3,600
- Other Spend Tier Credits: $500 * 2 = 1,000
Total Estimated Tier Credits: 6,000 + 3,600 + 1,000 = 10,600 Tier Credits.
