Enter the following parameters to calculate your Morguage value.
Morguage Value: N/A
Understanding Your Morguage Calculation
A "Morguage" is a conceptual metric we've designed to represent the energy cost efficiency of a household or business. It's particularly useful for understanding how different electricity rates, especially during peak and off-peak hours, affect your overall energy expenditure. This calculation helps you visualize potential savings by shifting energy consumption or by negotiating better rates.
The Morguage Formula
The Morguage value is calculated based on your total energy consumption, the rates applied during peak and off-peak hours, and the proportion of your consumption that occurs during peak hours. The formula aims to provide a standardized cost based on a hypothetical scenario where a portion of your energy is always consumed during peak hours.
Morguage = (Total Energy * Off-Peak Rate) + (Total Energy * Peak Rate * Peak Hours Percentage)
How the Calculator Works
Our Morguage Calculator takes the following inputs:
Energy Units Consumed (kWh): This is your total electricity usage over a specific period (e.g., a month).
Peak Rate ($/kWh): The cost per kilowatt-hour during the high-demand periods (typically weekdays, daytime).
Off-Peak Rate ($/kWh): The lower cost per kilowatt-hour during low-demand periods (typically evenings, nights, weekends).
Peak Hours Percentage (%): The estimated percentage of your total energy consumption that occurs during these peak hours.
The calculator then applies the formula:
It first calculates the cost if ALL your energy was consumed at the off-peak rate, providing a baseline minimum cost. Then, it adds the additional cost incurred by the portion of energy consumed during peak hours, based on your provided percentage.
Why Use a Morguage Calculator?
Cost Analysis: Understand the impact of peak vs. off-peak pricing on your bills.
Behavioral Insight: Identify how shifting usage patterns could lead to savings.
Rate Comparison: Evaluate different electricity plans by estimating their Morguage value based on your typical consumption.
Budgeting: Get a clearer estimate of your potential energy costs.
Example Calculation
Let's say you consume 6000 kWh of energy in a month.
Your peak rate is $0.30/kWh, and your off-peak rate is $0.18/kWh.
You estimate that 35% of your energy consumption happens during peak hours.
