Understanding Currency Buy Back Rates
When you return from a holiday with leftover foreign notes, you can sell them back to a currency exchange provider like Ramsdens. The Buy Back Rate is the exchange rate at which the provider buys the foreign currency from you in exchange for Pounds Sterling (GBP).
How the Calculation Works
Unlike when you buy currency (where you multiply your pounds by the rate), when selling currency back, the math is reversed. You divide your foreign currency total by the current buy back rate offered by the branch.
Total GBP = Foreign Currency Amount ÷ Buy Back Exchange Rate

- Buy Back Rate: 1.2850
- Calculation: 250 / 1.2850 = £194.55
Important Tips for Buy Back
1. Notes Only: Most high street providers, including Ramsdens, generally only buy back paper/polymer notes and do not accept foreign coins.
