- Use a Reliable Tool: A standard tape measure (preferably a long one, 25-30 feet) or a laser distance measurer will work best.
- Measure Length: Pick one wall and measure its entire length from corner to corner. If the room has alcoves or irregular shapes, measure the longest continuous length. Record this number in feet (e.g., 15 feet 6 inches should be 15.5 feet).
- Measure Width: Now, measure the width of the room, perpendicular to the length you just measured. Again, measure from corner to corner, taking the widest continuous width. Record this in feet.
- For Irregular Shapes: If your room isn't a perfect rectangle (e.g., an L-shaped room), you'll need to break it down into simpler rectangular sections.
